1978 Papa Gino's
This 40-disc set consists of all American League players with more than half the set being Boston Red Sox players. Papa Gino's was a chain of restaurants located throughout central New England. The discs are 3-3/8" in diameter and have a distinctive thick dark blue border on the front with orange printing. The set was approved by the Major League Baseball Players Association under the auspices of Mike Schechter Associates and as such has team logos airbrushed away. The discs are numbered on the back at the bottom; the uniform number is also given at the top of the reverse. The first 25 players in the set are members of the Boston Red Sox. - 2006 Beckett Almanac of Baseball Cards and Collectibles, 11th Edition.
